Puerto Rico’s Sustainable initiatives Promote Green Meetings

Meeting planners are adopting more eco-friendly practices to keep our planet and meeting spaces safe and clean.

Given the events of the past year, meeting planners around the world are adopting more eco-friendly practices to keep our planet and meeting spaces safe and clean. In fact, 53% of global travelers have said they want to start traveling greener in the future as the pandemic has opened their eyes to humans’ impact on the environment.

As the meetings industry begins to recover, the Puerto Rico’s DMO Discover Puerto Rico shared to share the latest sustainable initiatives and results at the Puerto Rico Convention Center (PRCC).

PRCC’s Sustainable Initiatives:

  • With over 20,000 solar panels and programmable LED lighting, the facility is 20% more energy efficient compared to 2017. The plant grid produces approximately 750,000KWhr/Month, which is equivalent to CO2 produced by 8,770 trees grown for 10 years.
  • With low-flow bathrooms and motion-sensor sinks, the facility has reduced water use by 12% annually. On-going efforts to fulfill a rainwater harvesting program will reduce use by an additional 15%.
  • There’s been a 23% waste diversion rate compared to 2018.

From recycling and composting to water waste deduction, PRCC strives to provide a sustainable and inclusive environment and meeting space to guests and the community.

This information will help planners choose their next sustainable venue while keeping green initiatives at the forefront.
