Silvana Biagiotti, reelected president for 2021-2023 of the board of directors of the Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus of Latin America & the Caribbean (or in Spanish, Asociación de CVBs LATAM), explains the group’s achievements in improving professionalism in the Latin American meetings industry.
Among their accomplishments are the upcoming four-day Foro Internacional & Expo Destinos, the creation of a training institute for MICE professionals, and an agreement with Destinations International to reach their entire membership and gain access to the Destinations Marketing Accreditation Program (Acreditación DMAP).
“All of these are tools that international buyers can use to feel more confident in Latin American destinations. We are taking some steps that haven’t been taken before,” said Silvana Biagiotti, who presides over the 170 active members of the association from 10 different Latin American countries.
Foro Internacional de la Industria de Reuniones + Expo Destinos 2021
In collaboration with Promtur Panamá, this hybrid international forum and destination expo will be held from October 11-14, 2021. The in-person event will be held at the recently inaugurated Panama Conventions Center.
The Expo Destinos component will be open 24 hours a day over four days, while the Foro de Líderes event will roll out presentations about destinations and products, expert panels, masterful conferences, and workshops. Networking opportunities will be facilitated on the virtual platforms of Ruedas de Negocios.
A wide range of professionals from the MICE industry will attend in addition to well-known personalities from the government, CVBs, DMOs, and others. Click here to see registration and event details.
Academic Institute for the Development of Meetings Industry Tourism (IADIR)
One of the pillars of building associative marketing in the MICE industry is education. The CVBs LATAM Association is creating the first institute for specialized training of MICE professionals in order to improve CVB services and develop destinations.
The above-mentioned Instituto Académico para el Desarrollo del Turismo de Reuniones (IADIR, to use its Spanish-language name and acronym), in collaboration with the international consultant management firm GainingEdge, will use trainers from allied organizations.
The institute will offer consultations as well as different levels of certificates, individual courses, and seminars on different themes. Content regarding various MICE specialties is in the works.
In order to bridge language and cultural barriers, IADIR will translate and interpret, or
“tropicalize,” English-language content for the Latin American market. In-person training sessions will be available as well as virtual or hybrid classes through the educational platform “Online.”
Agreement between Destinations International and DMAP Accreditation
The liaison between CVBs LATAM and Destinations International allows members of the former to enjoy full membership of the latter with a special discount of more than 50 percent.
Full membership in Destinations International allow clients access to all four of its programs: strategic planning tools, event impact calculations, meetings and groups marketing, and DMAP accreditation.
The agreement gives CVBs LTAM association members several benefits, but DMAP accreditation adds another, highly relevant level of professionalism in destination management services. In two years the content of the accreditation will be translated to Spanish.
