Nov. | 2018. The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, located in the Riviera Nayarit, was named Mexico’s Best Golf Resort. Its Jack Nicklaus Bahía Course — shared with the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita — was chosen as Mexico’s Best Golf Course during the 2018 World Golf Awards.
Known as the “Oscars of Golf,” these awards identify and reward excellence with regards to the facilities and services of different courses, resorts, and golf destinations from around the world with the goal of improving client experience and stimulating domestic and international markets. The votes were cast by professionals who work in the golf travel and golfing industries: senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents, and media professionals.
According to the website at World Golf Awards, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Bahía Course was chosen from among 11 Mexican courses, all with ocean views. As its name suggests, this course offers panoramic views of Banderas Bay. It has a hole a few steps from El Faro, Punta Mita’s famous surfing beach, and has impressive lakes and other aquatic elements.
With regards to the hotel, The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort offers its guests all the luxuries of a private and discrete getaway. It has 120 exquisitely decorated rooms and suites with mesmerizing views of the Pacific or the gardens. All accommodations combine rustic Provencal décor with Mexican art and handmade furniture. The nearby Islas Marietas beckon guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
The hotel was nominated and won over other important golf properties located in Riviera Maya, Cancun, Acapulco, Colima, and Los Cabos.
In this respect, Jesús Carmona Jiménez, president of the Bahía de Banderas Hotel and Motel Association (AHMBB), has spotlighted the Riviera Nayarit’s vocation as one of the most important golf destinations for players. He also mentioned the destination’s courses certified by the PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association of America) and designed by some of the best-known names in the business: Jack Nicklaus, Robert Von Hagge, Jim Lipe, Percy Clifford and Greg Norman. The quality and challenging nature of these courses have made them one of the region’s key attractions.
