IBTM Americas continues to evolve within the new normal in 2021. Who better than Event Director David Hidalgo Ayala to comment on the results of its most recent Virtual Summit and give us the lowdown on its 11th annual event.
Last May’s Virtual Summit was entirely virtual and was attended by 1,400 attendees, who were briefed on pre-pandemic trends, new trends, and how to merge them.
“We want to emphasize that the Virtual Summit is part of the Market Place strategy we’re executing as a brand. The transformation of IBTM Americas 2.0 from an annual event to a business platform offering constant content adds value to the meetings community year-round,” said David Hidalgo.
The 2021 in-person event is confirmed for August 18-19 at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City. The event will further reinforce the strategy of humanization, which began with “Humanizing the Change,” followed by “Humanizing the Business,” and now “Humanizing the Events.”
“It’s a great opportunity for us to reopen events of this magnitude. We know that events with certain dimensions and characteristics have already been held, but in our industry, business events that bring together a larger number of people are important, and there’s great enthusiasm for recovering this dynamic,” said Hidalgo Ayala.
Estimates for this edition include 300 exhibitor companies, 10,000 business appointments, and 2,500 attendees. These numbers are evidently lower than those from 2019 when there were 450 companies, 13,500 business appointments, and 3,500 attendees.
Regarding qualified buyers, this year, there will only be buyers from the USA and LATAM, but not from Europe, Asia, or Africa. There will be between 500 and 600 buyers, prioritizing quality over quantity.
The event’s traditional academic program will be hybrid, unlike the face-to-face business sessions. A virtual business round will be held again in December, similar to last year’s event.
The event will follow the protocols established by the authorities, and no considerations will be made to differentiate between vaccinated and unvaccinated attendees; everyone will undergo the same admission process.
