The Dominican Republic is one of only four countries that will have completed the Covid-19 vaccination of its entire population by 2021.
The World Meetings Forum Summit República Dominicana Opening Edition occurs from April 11 to 14, 2021, at the Live Aqua Punta Cana hotel. The Caribbean country will welcome buyers from the United States, Mexico, and Latin America, testing its adaptations to the new normal of in-person events.
“It’s one of the first big post-covid-19 events that is going to give us visibility. We have previously held a few private meetings with protocols and without incident, but they have been small groups,” said Amelia Molina, director of Meetings and Incentives for the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism.
Amelia emphasized the importance of this first international meeting for the reactivation of the destination. “We’re going to show buyers that we’re prepared with all the protocols and an infrastructure adapted to the new demands,” she added.
WMF’s event will consist of four days of activities, including table tops, panel discussions, six experienced speakers, and networking activities such as cooking presentations, rum tastings, and golf games.
The goal is to provide an ideal space with the best academic content, business appointment schedules, and unique experiences. More than 30 international suppliers are confirmed to attend, ranging from hotels, destinations, DMCs, and airlines, among other services.
The breakdown of attendees is as follows: 80% meeting planners, 6% associations, and 15% direct clients; the latter come from Mexico (60%), Latin America (25%), and the United States (15%).
Of note is that the Dominican Republic is one of only four countries that will finish vaccinating its entire population against Covid-19 by 2021. The other three are Chile, the United States, and Uruguay.
