Meeting planners have a partner for corporate social responsibility programs that make a difference.

The Riviera Nayarit—a sun-soaked swath paradise along Mexico’s Pacific Coast—has a well-deserved reputation among VIP meetings and events planners for its mix of spectacular natural landscapes, luxurious resorts, and unique experiences. With such a high profile comes increased responsibility, and this destination has also gained renown for its commitment to environmental conservation and to help improve the quality of life in its local communities.
Planners looking for truly impactful and innovative corporate social responsibility events to help their clients establish themselves as socially responsible companies have an ally in the Punta de Mita Foundation. One of several non-profit, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) based in the Riviera Nayarit, the Punta de Mita Foundation (FPM, by its acronym in Spanish) began operating in December 2007 with an eye towards supporting local and regional communities through projects that improved the life of their citizens.
On a Mission
As a community foundation, FPM works to gather and distribute material resources that offer other local and regional non-profit and grassroots organizations the possibility of growing in their management work, providing them with financial support when their objectives are compatible with the Foundation’s.
This flexibility has afforded the Foundation an opportunity to work with an incredible range of organizations large and small that touch on life in this region, from the research and protection of whales and manta rays, and bird and turtle conservation to child development and nutrition, dance and gymnastics for children, and training and equipment for local firefighters.
FPM focuses on four essential pillars to help provide a strong foundation for the region—Education, Environment, Health, and Community Development—extended through eight separate programs that include helping high school students reach their goals, providing a space for the community to practice sports, empowering families in advocating for their children’s health, and promoting environmental awareness and practices, among others. Of note is the fact the FPM is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, which are reflected within these programs.
The Punta de Mita Foundation offers meeting planners a wealth of opportunities for their corporate clients to contribute to the welfare of the Riviera Nayarit, from something as simple and fulfilling as helping children paint the exterior of a public school and adding a beautiful mural or assembling bikes to be raffled among grade-school students to participation in high-end golf and gourmet events such as the Punta Mita Charity Golf Classic and the week-long Flavors of Punta Mita festival. The latter, which traditionally kicks off the region’s high season in November, is expected to shine brightly this year with any and all adaptations needed for the New Normal.
Holding up the Light at the End of the Tunnel
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the far-reaching action plan the Foundation set into motion for 2020 and beyond with the help of their donors. This included facemask creation and distribution, community kitchens, baby formula distribution, childcare, direct relief (hospital supplies), and providing students with laptops and internet for home schooling, among others. Ongoing projects include spurring the social and economic reactivation of communities by stimulating the flow of tourists to the El Anclote area with a beautification program and providing workshops and support to micro and small business owners.
